Museums in Phuket

The Phuket Mining Museum documents three centuries of tin mining that transformed the island from a jungle-covered outpost into one of the wealthiest provinces in Siam. Set in a purpose-built complex, it combines dioramas, artefacts, and a recreated tin mine tunnel.

Phuket Aquarium is operated by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources on Cape Panwa, the island's southeastern tip. It houses over 150 species of marine life from the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, including sharks, sea turtles, and colourful reef fish.

Thalang National Museum is a small national museum opposite the Heroine's Monument, covering the history of Phuket and the Andaman coast from prehistoric times to the modern era, with particular focus on the 1785 Thalang defence against Burmese invasion.

The Phuket Thai Hua Museum occupies a beautifully restored 1930s Sino-Portuguese mansion on Krabi Road, telling the story of Hokkien Chinese migration to Phuket and the tin-mining era that shaped the island's culture and architecture.

The Phuket Trickeye Museum is an interactive art gallery in Phuket Town featuring over 100 three-dimensional optical illusion paintings designed for visitors to pose with and photograph. Spread across multiple themed zones, it offers a light-hearted indoor activity.
