Pike Place Market is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers' markets in the United States and a defining Seattle landmark. It is a vibrant, multi-level labyrinth of stalls, shops, and restaurants perched over the Elliott Bay waterfront.
Opened on August 17, 1907, the market was created to connect citizens directly with farmers. It survived attempts to replace it with modern development in the 1960s, preserved by a passionate citizen-led initiative.
