Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve protects one of the rarest pine trees in the world — the Torrey Pine — across 2,000 acres of sandstone bluffs, ravines, and unspoiled coastline. The trails offer dramatic clifftop views of the Pacific.
The reserve was established in 1899 when the City of San Diego set aside the land. Ellen Browning Scripps helped fund its protection. It's been a state reserve since 1959 and is one of the last wild coastal areas in Southern California.
