Old Town San Diego State Historic Park preserves the site of the first European settlement in California, founded in 1769. The park features restored adobe buildings, museums, and Mexican restaurants surrounding a central plaza.
Junípero Serra established the Mission San Diego de Alcalá nearby in 1769, making this the birthplace of California. The settlement grew into a small Mexican pueblo before American annexation in 1846. The state park was established in 1968.
