The Liberty Bell Center houses America's most iconic symbol of freedom — a 2,080-pound copper bell with its famous crack. The exhibit traces the bell's journey from colonial instrument to international emblem of liberty.
Cast in London in 1752, the bell cracked on its first test ring and was recast twice by local metalworkers. It rang to summon citizens for the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. The crack expanded irreparably in 1846.
