The 16th Street Mall is a 2-km pedestrian promenade stretching through the heart of downtown Denver, lined with trees, outdoor cafés, shops, and public art. Free MallRide shuttle buses run the full length of the mall.
Designed by I.M. Pei's firm and opened in 1982, the 16th Street Mall was one of America's first major pedestrian mall projects. A $150 million reconstruction completed in 2024 refreshed the pavement, tree plantings, and transit infrastructure.
