Torre delle Ore

Overview

Torre delle Ore (Tower of the Hours) is Lucca's tallest tower at 50 metres, housing a hand-wound clock mechanism dating to 1754. Climbing its 207 wooden steps rewards visitors with unobstructed views over the walled city and surrounding hills.

History

Documented since the 13th century, the tower has served as the city's official timekeeper for centuries. The current clock was installed by the Swiss clockmaker Louis-Simon Coster in 1754 and is still wound by hand regularly.
