Overview

SALT Galata occupies the magnificently restored former Ottoman Bank headquarters—a monumental 1892 building by Alexandre Vallaury—now serving as a free contemporary art space, research library and event venue.

History

The Ottoman Bank (Banque Ottomane) was founded in 1863 and this building served as its headquarters until the 2000s. SALT repurposed it in 2011 as a cultural institution.
