Kadıköy's produce market is a labyrinth of fish stalls, pickle shops, olive counters, spice merchants and delicatessens packed into the narrow lanes behind the ferry terminal—Istanbul's most authentic daily food bazaar.
Kadıköy has been a market quarter since the Byzantine port of Chalcedon. The current covered lanes trace their layout to a late-Ottoman reorganisation in the 1920s.
