Raj Bhavan is the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal, set on 27 acres of manicured grounds at the northern edge of the Maidan. Its grand Palladian design was modelled on Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire, England.
Built between 1799 and 1803 for Governor-General Lord Wellesley, it was designed by Captain Charles Wyatt of the Bengal Engineers. It served as the residence of the Viceroy of India until the capital moved to Delhi in 1911.
