The Prinsep Ghat monument is a Palladian porch erected in memory of Anglo-Indian scholar James Prinsep, set on the bank of the Hooghly River. It offers wide views across the river toward Howrah.
Erected in 1843 to honour James Prinsep, who deciphered the Brahmi and Kharosthi scripts, unlocking the edicts of Emperor Ashoka. The structure was designed by W. Fitzgerald.
