Thanh Ha Pottery Village

Overview

Thanh Ha Pottery Village is a 500-year-old ceramics community about 3 km west of the Ancient Town. Visitors can watch artisans work on traditional kick-wheels and try their hand at throwing clay pots in one of Vietnam's oldest continuously operating pottery villages.

• Terracotta Park: An open-air sculpture garden with playful oversized clay figures and structures.
• Pottery Making: Try throwing a pot on a traditional wheel guided by experienced artisans (included in entry fee).
• Working Kilns: See the traditional wood-fired kilns where pots are fired at high temperatures.

History

Thanh Ha has produced pottery since the early 16th century, originally supplying ceramics for Hoi An's export trade. At its peak, the village was a major producer of tiles, bricks, and decorative ceramics. Today about 30 families continue the craft.
