My Son Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage complex of Cham Hindu temple ruins nestled in a forested valley 40 km southwest of Hoi An. Built between the 4th and 13th centuries, it was the spiritual and political capital of the Champa Kingdom and is often compared to Angkor Wat and Borobudur.
My Son was continuously built and expanded by Cham kings from the 4th to the 13th century as the holiest site in the Champa Kingdom. Most temples were dedicated to Shiva. Many structures were severely damaged during US bombing in 1969, but extensive restoration has preserved the site's grandeur.
