Cham Island (Cu Lao Cham)

Overview

Cham Island (Cù Lao Chàm) is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve archipelago of eight islands located 18 km off Hoi An's coast. With crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and pristine beaches, it offers the best snorkeling and diving in central Vietnam.

History

Cham Island has been inhabited since prehistoric times and served as a crucial stopover on ancient maritime trade routes. Archaeological finds include Sa Huynh artifacts and Cham trading ceramics. It was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2009.

Visitor Tips

• Day Tour: Speed boats depart from Cua Dai pier daily at 8 AM (season: March–September). Pre-book in town.
• Overnight: Staying overnight in a homestay offers a quieter, more authentic experience.
