Cam Thanh Coconut Village is a waterways district south of the Ancient Town where dense nipa palm forests line the channels of the Thu Bon delta. Visitors explore the waterways in traditional round basket boats (thuyền thúng), guided by local fishermen.
Cam Thanh has been a fishing and farming community for centuries. The coconut palms (actually water nipa palms) once sheltered Viet Cong guerrillas during the war. The basket boat tours emerged in the 2000s as a way for fishing families to supplement their income.
