Independence Square (Mustakillik Maydoni) is Tashkent's vast ceremonial square, featuring manicured gardens, eternal flame monuments, and broad promenades. It serves as the site of national celebrations and presidential events.
Originally known as Red Square, the space was Tashkent's main Soviet parade ground. After independence in 1991, the Lenin statue was replaced with the Independence Monument and the square was renamed. It was redesigned with extensive gardens and fountains in the 2000s.
