The State Museum of History of Uzbekistan is the country's oldest and most comprehensive museum, spanning from prehistoric archaeological finds through the Silk Road era to modern independence. The collection includes over 250,000 artifacts.
Founded in 1876 as the Turkestan Museum during the Russian Imperial period, it is one of Central Asia's oldest museums. The collection was significantly expanded during Soviet-era archaeological campaigns. The museum moved to its current building in 1970.
