Yanchengpu is a hip waterfront neighbourhood stretching from Pier-2 Art Center inland through narrow lanes of pre-war shophouses. Once a salt warehouse district, it has reinvented itself as Kaohsiung's creative quarter, packed with indie boutiques, craft-coffee roasters, and street-art murals.
Yanchengpu (named after the 'salt-processing depot') grew up around the harbour's salt trade in the early 20th century. As the port moved south, the area declined until the 2010s Pier-2 expansion drew young entrepreneurs and artists who revitalised the surrounding streets.
