Overview
Sizihwan Bay is a small crescent-shaped sandy beach at the foot of Shoushan, connected to the Former British Consulate by a hillside boardwalk. Known for its spectacular sunsets, it is one of Kaohsiung's most accessible coastal leisure spots.
Highlights
- Sunset Point: The south-west-facing bay offers unobstructed views of the sun dropping into the Taiwan Strait—widely regarded as the city's best sunset.
- Boardwalk: A well-maintained pathway runs from the beach up to Gushan and the Former British Consulate grounds.
- National Sun Yat-sen University: The campus entrance is adjacent, adding a lively student atmosphere to the area.
History
Sizihwan was historically a fishing cove, and the name translates to 'west child bay'. During the Japanese colonial period a bathing area was developed, and the beach was popularised for recreation. A 2003 boardwalk project linked it to the nearby consulate and Shoushan trails.
