Cijin Shell Museum

Overview

The Cijin Shell Museum is a small but charming natural-history museum housed in a converted Japanese-era school building on Cijin Island. Its collection of over 2,000 seashells and marine specimens spans species from the Taiwan Strait, Pacific Ocean, and beyond.

History

The museum was established in 2000 from the private collection of local collector Mr. Huang Tsong-sheng, who donated over 2,000 specimens. It occupies the 1921-built former Cijin Public School, one of the island's oldest surviving structures.
