Central Park

Overview

Central Park is an urban green space in Kaohsiung's Qianjin district, bisected by the Red Line MRT whose underground station was designed by British architect Richard Rogers. The park provides a welcome patch of shade and open lawn amid the dense commercial centre.

Highlights

• MRT Station Canopies: Richard Rogers' yellow and pink steel-and-glass canopies over the station entrances are landmarks in their own right.
• Lake and Fountains: A small artificial lake and fountain jet sit at the park's centre, flanked by benches and palm trees.
• Skateboard Area: A concrete skate park attracts local skaters in the evenings.

History

The park was developed in the 1970s on former railway land. When the MRT Red Line was built in the 2000s, Richard Rogers Partnership redesigned the station entrances with colourful parasol structures, giving the park an architectural identity.
