Overview
Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is an ethical, no-ride rescue facility in the hills behind Paklok. Retired elephants rescued from logging and tourism camps roam freely across 30 acres of grassland and forest, observed by visitors from elevated walkways.
Highlights
- Observation Walkways: Elevated platforms allow close viewing of elephants bathing, foraging, and socialising without disturbing them.
- Feeding Experience: Prepare fruit baskets and feed the elephants by hand under staff supervision.
- Education Centre: Displays explain each elephant's rescue story and the broader conservation challenges.
History
Founded in 2016, the sanctuary was among the first no-riding elephant facilities in Phuket, modelled on the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai.
