Overview
Freedom Beach is a 300-metre stretch of powdery white sand hidden between Patong and Karon, accessible only by longtail boat (5 minutes from Patong, ~300 THB) or a steep jungle trail. Its seclusion makes it one of Phuket's most photographed beaches.
Highlights
- Crystal-Clear Water: Calm, turquoise water ideal for snorkelling — small reef fish are visible right off the sand.
- Jungle Backdrop: Dense tropical vegetation frames the beach, creating a castaway atmosphere.
- No Development: No permanent structures — just temporary shade umbrellas and food vendors.
History
The beach was historically a private cove associated with the adjacent resort land. After legal disputes, it was confirmed as public in 2017, though access remains limited.
Visitor Tips
- Access: Longtail boats from Patong beach are the easiest option. The hiking trail from the road is steep and slippery.
- Bring supplies: Limited food and water available, and prices are premium.
- Duration: 1.5–2 hours.
