Taudaha is a small natural lake on the southern outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley, steeped in mythology. According to legend, it is the last remnant of the primordial lake that once filled the entire valley, and the serpent king Karshota dwells in its depths.
According to the Swayambhu Purana, when Manjushri drained the primordial lake to create the Kathmandu Valley, he left Taudaha for the serpent king. Geologically, it is indeed a remnant of the ancient Paleo-Kathmandu Lake.
