Patan Museum, housed in the former royal residence of the Malla kings, is widely regarded as the finest museum in Nepal. Its beautifully restored brick-and-timber galleries showcase an outstanding collection of Hindu and Buddhist art spanning over a thousand years.
The palace was built between the 14th and 18th centuries. Austrian architect Götz Hagmüller restored it as a museum, which opened in 1997. It has won multiple UNESCO heritage awards.
