Pulau Payar Marine Park is a protected cluster of four small islands 30 km south of Langkawi, offering Malaysia's best coral reef snorkelling and diving in the northern Strait of Malacca. A floating platform serves as a base for swimming among baby blacktip reef sharks, tropical fish, and vibrant coral.
Established as a marine park in 1985, Pulau Payar was one of Malaysia's first protected marine areas. The floating platform was introduced in the 1990s to manage snorkelling access and reduce damage to the reef from uncontrolled anchoring. Conservation efforts have helped shark populations recover.
