Langkawi Cable Car (SkyCab)

Overview

The Langkawi SkyCab is one of the world's steepest cable car rides, ascending 708 metres from the Oriental Village base station to the summit of Gunung Mat Chinchang in just 15 minutes. The six-person gondolas offer breathtaking views of rainforest, waterfalls, and the Andaman Sea.

• Steepest ascent: The second section climbs at a 42-degree angle — one of the steepest cable car gradients worldwide.
• Middle station: Stop at the midpoint for a viewing platform overlooking Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) waterfall.

History

The SkyCab opened in 2003 as part of the Panorama Langkawi development. Designed by Swiss engineers and built at a cost of RM 110 million, it was originally conceived to provide visitor access to the ancient geological formations on Gunung Mat Chinchang, the oldest rocks in Southeast Asia at 550 million years.
