The Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue is the world's tallest equestrian statue — a 40-metre stainless-steel monument to the founder of the Mongol Empire, set on the open steppe at Tsonjin Boldog, 54 km east of Ulaanbaatar. Visitors can climb inside the horse to an observation deck on its head.
Completed in 2008, the monument marks the legendary spot where Chinggis Khaan is said to have found a golden whip, an auspicious omen. The 250-tonne stainless-steel structure took four years to build and cost $4.1 million.
