Overview

The Gems Museum (Myanmar Gems Museum) showcases the country's legendary gemstone heritage — Myanmar produces some of the world's finest rubies, sapphires, jade, and pearls. The museum is part of the Myanmar Gems Enterprise complex and displays an impressive collection of raw and cut stones alongside educational exhibits about mining and gem cutting.

Highlights

• Mogok Ruby Display: Examples of the famous pigeon-blood rubies from the Mogok valley, among the world's most valuable gemstones.
• Imperial Jade: Massive pieces of raw jadeite illustrating why Myanmar dominates the global jade trade.

History

Myanmar has been a source of precious gemstones for centuries, with Mogok's ruby mines active since at least the 15th century. The jade trade with China dates back even further. The museum was established to display the country's mineral wealth and educate visitors about the gem industry, which remains a significant part of Myanmar's economy.
