The Japanese Garden (Jardin Japonais) is a serene 7,000 m² Zen garden on the seafront near the Grimaldi Forum. Designed by Japanese landscape architect Yasuo Beppu and inaugurated in 1994, it follows strict principles of traditional Japanese garden design.
Prince Rainier III commissioned the garden in 1994 to strengthen cultural ties between Monaco and Japan. Yasuo Beppu designed it using traditional techniques, importing many materials and plant species from Japan. Every stone and tree placement follows symbolic meaning.
