The Colombo Racecourse is a large public park in the Cinnamon Gardens district, once the city's premier horse-racing venue. After racing ended in 1956, the grounds were converted into a popular recreation area with jogging tracks, playgrounds, and event spaces.
Horse racing was introduced by the British in the 19th century and was a major social event. After racing was banned in 1956, the racecourse was repurposed as a public park.
