The Lao National Museum, housed in a 1925 French colonial building that once served as the French governor's mansion, traces the history of Laos from prehistoric stone tools through the Lan Xang kingdom to the 1975 revolution and modern nationhood.
The building was constructed in 1925 as the residence of the French Resident Superior and later served as the Royal Lao Government headquarters. After the revolution in 1975, it was converted into the national museum. The collections were reorganised most recently in 2008.
