Zhibek Zholy (Silk Road) is Almaty's main pedestrian street, a lively promenade stretching through the city centre. Named after the ancient trade route, it is lined with shops, restaurants, cafés, and occasional street performers.
Originally named Gorky Street during the Soviet period, the road was pedestrianised and renamed Zhibek Zholy (Silk Way) after independence to reflect Kazakhstan's historical position on the Silk Road.
