The Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the country's largest and oldest museum, housing over 300,000 artefacts across exhibitions on archaeology, ethnography, natural history, and modern Kazakhstan.
Founded in 1931 as the Kazakh branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences Museum, it moved to its current imposing Soviet neoclassical building in 1985. The Golden Man replica has become a symbol of Kazakh national identity.
