History
Boeung Kak Lake was a large natural lake in central Phnom Penh until a 99-year lease was granted to a development company in 2007. Subsequent sand-filling displaced over 4,000 families and destroyed the lake, sparking one of Cambodia's most prominent land-rights movements. Some residents won a partial victory, retaining plots of land.
