Odori Park

Overview

Odori Park is a 1.5 km green belt that divides Sapporo's downtown grid between the North and South districts. Running east–west from the Sapporo TV Tower to Sapporo District Court, the park serves as the main venue for the Sapporo Snow Festival (February), the Lilac Festival (May), and the Autumn Fest beer garden (September).

History

Originally a firebreak dividing the northern administrative and southern commercial districts of early Sapporo, the strip was formalized as a park in 1871. The Snow Festival has been held here since 1950, drawing over 2 million visitors annually.

• Tip 1: In summer, the beer gardens stretch across multiple blocks with different breweries — arrive early for seats.
• Tip 2: Walk the full length for different vistas; Block 3 has the best fountain and the park's symbolic sculpture.
