Overview

Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a vast national park stretching across a narrow sandy peninsula in Hakata Bay. With seasonal flower gardens, cycling paths, a petting zoo, playgrounds, and waterfront views on both sides, it's Fukuoka's premier outdoor family destination.

History

The park opened in 1981 on a narrow sand spit that separates Hakata Bay from the open sea. It is managed by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as a national government park. The 300-hectare site was developed to provide Fukuoka residents with accessible green space and beach access.

Visitor Tips

• Tip 1: Rent bicycles at the entrance — the park is too large to explore completely on foot.
• Tip 2: Take the Uminonakamichi Line train to Uminonakamichi Station, or the ferry from Hakata Port for a scenic arrival.
• Duration: 2.5–3.5 hours.
