Shahid Minar (originally Ochterlony Monument) is a 48-meter tall column at the northern end of the Maidan, combining Egyptian, Syrian, and Turkish architectural elements.
Built in 1828 to commemorate Sir David Ochterlony's victory in the Anglo-Nepalese War, renamed Shahid Minar (Martyrs' Tower) in 1969.
