Mapusa Friday Market

Overview

The Mapusa Friday Market is a traditional weekly market about 13 km north of Panaji. Unlike tourist-oriented markets, this is a genuine local affair where villagers sell fresh fish, produce, spices, and Goan sausages (chourico).

History

Mapusa has been a market town since before Portuguese rule. The Friday market is one of the oldest continuously running markets in Goa, mentioned in 18th-century colonial records.

• Getting There: Frequent local buses from Panaji to Mapusa.
