Devanahalli Fort is a 16th-century stone fortification located 35 km north of Bengaluru, near Kempegowda International Airport. It is historically significant as the birthplace of Tipu Sultan, one of India's most famous warrior kings.
Originally a mud fort built by the Morasu Wokkalu chieftains in the 15th century, it was captured and rebuilt in stone by the Dalwais of Mysore. Hyder Ali was born in a garrison town nearby, and his son Tipu Sultan was born within the fort in 1750.
