Musamman Burj is an octagonal tower with an open pavilion projecting from Agra Fort's eastern wall, directly facing the Taj Mahal. It is famously the place where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by Aurangzeb and spent his final years gazing at the tomb of his beloved wife.
Shah Jahan was confined here from 1658 until his death in 1666. According to court historians, his daughter Jahanara Begum attended him during his imprisonment. The tower also served as the emperor's private apartment.
