The Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audiences) in Agra Fort is an exquisite white marble pavilion where the emperor met foreign ambassadors, senior nobles, and important visitors. It was renowned for housing the legendary Peacock Throne.
Shah Jahan rebuilt the hall entirely in white marble during the 1630s. The Diwan-i-Khas was at the heart of Mughal diplomacy, and its splendour was meant to awe foreign dignitaries. After Nadir Shah's invasion, many of its treasures were lost.
