Kedung Pedut Waterfall

Overview

Kedung Pedut is a multi-tiered waterfall hidden in the forested hills of the Menoreh range west of Yogyakarta. Its distinctive turquoise-blue pools — coloured by dissolved minerals — cascade down limestone terraces where visitors can swim in the natural rock basins.

History

Kedung Pedut remained largely unknown outside the local Kulon Progo community until around 2015, when photos of its unusually blue water spread on social media. The local village now manages the site as a community tourism destination, maintaining trails and basic facilities.

Visitor Tips

• Slippery trails: The path to the lower pools can be slippery — wear water shoes or sandals with grip.
• Rainy season: Water levels are highest and the falls most impressive during the wet season (November–March).
• Duration: 1.5–2 hours.
