Wutong Mountain

Overview

Wutong Mountain is Shenzhen's highest peak at 944 metres, located in the eastern part of the city. The mountain is part of a national forest park and offers challenging hiking trails through dense subtropical forest, culminating in panoramic views of the entire city and coastline.

History

Wutong Mountain has been a landmark in the region for centuries, mentioned in historical texts as one of the eight scenic views of the ancient Xin'an County. The national forest park was designated in 1993 to protect the mountain's ecological value as urbanisation spread around its base.

Visitor Tips

• Difficulty: The main trail is strenuous — 3–4 hours up, 2 hours down. Bring plenty of water.
• Weather: Check conditions before going; the summit is often in cloud.
• Duration: 5–6 hours round trip.
