Window of the World

Overview

Window of the World is a 48-hectare theme park in Nanshan District that features approximately 130 scaled replicas of famous global landmarks, from the Eiffel Tower to the Egyptian pyramids. Opened in 1994, it was one of Shenzhen's earliest tourist attractions and remains hugely popular with domestic visitors.

Highlights

• 1:3 Scale Eiffel Tower: The park's centrepiece stands 108 metres tall and can be ascended for views of the surroundings.
• World Square Fountain Show: A nightly water, light, and music show performed in the central plaza.
• Cultural Performances: Daily folk dance and music shows represent different countries and regions.

History

Built during Shenzhen's first wave of theme park development in the 1990s, Window of the World was created by the Overseas Chinese Town Group. It symbolised China's outward-looking economic reform spirit — offering citizens who could not yet easily travel abroad a taste of the wider world.

Visitor Tips

• Weekday Visits: Weekends and holidays bring enormous crowds; weekdays are far more manageable.
• Evening Show: The fountain show begins at 19:30 and is worth staying for.
• Duration: 3–4 hours.
