Sea World is an open-air cultural and entertainment district in Shekou, centred around the retired French cruise liner Minghua. The repurposed ship and surrounding plazas host restaurants, bars, shops, and regular cultural events, creating the most cosmopolitan neighbourhood in Shenzhen.
The Minghua was originally the French ocean liner Ancerville, built in 1962. After years of service, it was purchased by China Merchants Group and brought to Shekou in 1983 as a floating hotel. The surrounding Sea World development grew around it from the 1990s onward, supported by Shekou's status as one of China's earliest special industrial zones.
