Chiwan Tin Hau Temple is one of the oldest religious sites in the Shenzhen area, dedicated to Mazu (Tin Hau), the goddess of the sea. Nestled at the base of Nanshan Hill in Shekou, the temple complex features traditional Cantonese architecture surrounded by ancient banyan trees.
The temple was originally built during the Song dynasty (960–1279), though the current structures date primarily from Ming and Qing dynasty restorations. For centuries it served the fishing communities of the Chiwan coast. Despite massive urbanisation all around it, the temple has been continuously maintained and remains an active place of worship.
