Bao'an Stadium is a 40,000-seat multi-purpose venue in Bao'an District, notable for its undulating "spring cocoon" exterior designed by German studio gmp Architects. It hosted matches during the 2011 Universiade and remains one of Shenzhen's most architecturally striking sports venues.
The stadium complex was built for the 2011 Summer Universiade — the World University Games — and was the main venue for the opening ceremony. Its distinctive cocoon-shape design won multiple architecture awards and has become a landmark in western Shenzhen.
