Enning Road Historic District

Overview

Enning Road (恩宁路) is the longest surviving Qilou (arcade) street in Guangzhou, stretching through the heart of the old Liwan District. A sensitive urban renewal project has restored its shophouses while introducing galleries, theatres, and artisan workshops.

Highlights

• Yongqing Fang: A restored alley district with boutique shops, craft beer bars, and pop-up art spaces.
• Qilou Arcades: Colonnaded shophouses with decorative parapets — some of the finest remaining examples in southern China.
• Bruce Lee Ancestor House: A small museum in the martial artist's ancestral family home.

History

Enning Road's Qilou buildings were erected in the 1920s–30s. By the 2000s many were derelict. A community-led campaign saved the street from demolition, leading to its designation as a heritage conservation zone in 2012.

• Free: Open-air district; individual venues may have hours.
• Evening: The alley bars and galleries come alive after 6 PM.
