Overview
Beijing Road Pedestrian Street (北京路步行街) is Guangzhou's premier shopping promenade and one of the oldest commercial thoroughfares in China, with archaeological excavations underfoot revealing road surfaces from the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties.

History
This road has been a commercial artery for over 2,000 years. During a 2002 renovation, archaeologists discovered 11 layers of ancient road surfaces, the earliest dating to the Qin dynasty (221 BC).
